For those of you out there who have yet to hear of D.J. Mark Moreno I strongly suggest you do some research. A former pro surfer from Huntington Beach, California, Mark has moved on professionally to pursue his other passion. That's right spinning records at the biggest surf industry party's in So. Cal as well as at some of the most cracking nightclubs on the circuit. Glas caught up with Mark to check out how things have been going.
Interview
So first off Mark how is life now that you are living it up and Bringing the Beats. You seem really happy?
Life is good my man, I cant complain. I have a beautiful son named Jaden who just turned 5, I'm busy with work and on top of all that, I'm getting hooked up with Glas Apparel, haha, what else do I need?
What bands, groups or D.J.'s most influence your spinning style?
I get inspiration from everything around me, not just music or specific musicians. Certain moments in life will trigger me to create a certain sound or vibe to fit that time frame. Thats what I love about music is that it can be so spontaneous. But, to answer your question some of my favorite artist's are: Moby, Daft Punk, Led Zepplin, Bob Marley, ZTrip, DJ Aero, DJ AM, Run DMC, Dr Dre to list a few.
What is it like to be the guy keeping the party alive? After all the D.J. is the heartbeat of any good party.
It's the best job in the world next to being a professional surfer. I love what I do so most of the time it doesn't seem like work. Nothing better than hearing a crowd scream when you drop a track.
You and I used to play a bit of Golf together on that par 3 next to your old pad. You still hitting the links?
I am not going to lie, but I haven't played in two years. I have a brand new set of clubs in the garage but there collecting dust. I would be lucky to break the 90's today.
You always seem to find time to get a few waves at home when there's swell. Have you been on any notable surf trips as of late?
I went to Kauai in October for an early season swell and scored some great waves. Other than that I haven't been on any other surf trips besides a month long tour in Europe back in January.
If you could write up a script for your future as a prominent So Cal D.J. , how would it play out?
DJ from so-cal scores a record deal of a lifetime who resides at a water front home in Tahiti with his family.
Right on Mark. TY for taking the time to talk with us. All the best.
